Part 08 UP Palma Hall, Parking Lot

at this point, i decided to get the E34 Beemer and drive myself to the University of the Philippines Shopping Center or UP Diliman SC, it's around 9am now, so the stores, specifically UP Diliman Coop, should be open for business.

along the way, on my Nokia E72, i managed to take pictures of Palma Hall formally know as UP Dilimans' College of Arts and Letters.

and i just couldn't help myself so i snapped a quick picture of this VW Beetle as well. taking pictures of cars and admiring the design and engineering which brought them to fruition gives such a warm and inspiring feeling. taking all these pictures can be tiring, i'm worrying how i can enhance some of the bad takes before posting it. now is probably a good time to call it a wrap until i find more free time to take more photos of other note-worthy places around the UP Diliman campus.

Vinzons Hall Benitez Hall UP Diliman Part 07

VINZONS HALL aptly land-marked by a statue of Andres Bonifacio. my brothers and i used to drive our bicycles around the statue and once due to some mistake on my part, i fell and sprained my ankle real bad i couldn't walk for several days.

this is also the first place i bought my first pack of cigarettes, i got kicked out of EEE due to some misunderstanding between myself, the college dean and college secretary; apparently we have different interpretations of what constitutes acceptable behavior, and since my overall grade wasn't near impressive, it was logical for them to boot me out. i'm way pass that now and carry no grudge. looking back, it was probably one of the good things that happened to me.

UP Business Administration Part 06

University of the Philipines Diliman Campus College of Business Administration. tamarind trees use to grow along the walls of this building. my brothers and i would harvest them during the summer and we would pay-off the blue guards with some of our stash. after which, we'd sell our junk or trade them for toys. one summer we saved enough to buy ourselves a nintendo family computer and a bmx bike.

another picture of the University of the Philippines Diliman Campus Sunken Garden taken near the UP diliman School of Economics. just wanted to add that at this point i finally found a used-up cigarette pack with a receipt in one of the trash receptacles found spread around the UP Academic Oval, i didn't bother taking a picture of it, the important thing is i now know where to buy cigarettes! one can buy cigarettes at UP Diliman COOP, lol.

Beach House UP School of Economics Part 05

my amplified powers of observation due to desperation has inadvertently lead me to the sunken garden. no luck yet. here's a picture of the University of the Philippines Diliman Campus Sunken Garden, this one is taken near college of law, where they mass produce future santiagos, enriles and marcoses; how's that for UP pride? as my grandfather once told me, "behind every epic Philippine catastrophe is a UP Law Alumni turned politician".

here are a few more pictures of the UP Diliman Main Library; took this from the "beach house" side; sadly though, the barbecue place no longer exists. for those that didn't know or for those who choose to forget, this is the place where dennis venturina was allegedly murdered in broad daylight by the suspected Scintilla Juris fraternity. many blogs and even wikipedia records the event as a riot or gang war, but there was no riot, there wasn't even an actual fight; men in ski-masks carrying metal pipes stormed down the path towards dennis and ended his life. this was in December 1994. i know it isn't much, but this section is for dennis, so that people will not forget what happened on this very spot.

the Univesity of the Philipines Diliman Campus School of Economics. a close friend once told me that if economics was an exact science the Philippines wouldn't be in this mess it is right now. he's a proud product of this establishment. gloria macapagal-arroyo took her Ph.D. here, and look what great things she was able to accomplish! another quality product of UP Diliman, GO U.P.!

Gonzalez Hall UP Diliman Main Library Part 04

so what was a bloke to do? persist. i drove towards GONZALEZ HALL - the University of the Philippines main library in the hopes that some enterprising vendor has some secret stash he'll be willing to part with given the right motivation, but alas, same story.

while contemplating my options, i took this picture of GONZALEZ HALL aka the UP Diliman Main Library. the original oblation (pahinungod) by tolentino is stashed inside this building. i'm not so sure if students even bother coming here anymore, one can tell from how the building is maintained that it has seen better days both figuratively and literally.

lol. reminds me of UPCAT.

while loitering about Gonzalez Hall i noticed cigarette butts. here's my way of thinking, if i keep myself on the lookout, i'll hopefully find a trashcan or a heap of trash with cigarette butts and used-up packs of cigarette with some sort of label or receipt where it was bought! it's a long shot but right now it's the only idea i have since i've already asked around and i keep getting the same blank stare as if i'm some sort of crazy person.
